« The idea behind the mix was to share with people the sounds I’m into right now and some exclusive new music from myself and my friends who are like-minded. I recorded the mix to cassette because I felt like a lot of the music on the mix embodied the feelings of a time period when tape was the main format people used to listen. Plus I just think the sound of tape saturating is really nice. So I named the mix « Be Kind Rewind. »
« Knocking us into triple figures, Black Classical delivers number 100 in our mixtape series supplying another heavyweight selection of private press jazz and sought after rarities. If there was ever one man who fully deserves to take our first accolade it’s our friend from Manchester, who over the past few years has built a name for himself on this here Internet, compiling an innumerable amount of mixes in his own right and in the process unearthing a ridiculous stream of forgotten gems and seldom seen delights. Lest we forget his mammoth 12 hour spiritual jazz retrospective that is still setting Twitter alight some 12 months after it first hit the web – he simply just doesn’t do run of the mill. So to this mix… righteous, spiritual and chock full of unreleased material alongwith some uber rare jazz nuggets. The David Lampel sounds awesome right from the off, and there’s further goodness from TripleJJJAZZ Ensemble, Juan Sultan and the Paris Smith Quintet. It’s a trip! »
